A CASE STUDY HOUSE ON A HILL

A new family home, slotted into the hill.  The house allows us to consider vernacular typologies and their application in the rural landscape.

Here, the grain of the hill has been incised with a zig-zag wall, which allows the house to nestle to the slope whilst providing a feeling of altitude over the public areas towards the carefully calibrated views.

A thick chimney anchors the house to its side, whilst the plan diminishes  towards the private areas.  Entry is from a newly forms court to the rear, allowing the vistas and aspects to be revealed.

Hearths are dispersed appropriately.
